Things to do on site and in the Millom Area

With miles of pristine beaches just ten minutes away this area offers a multitude of things to do, from simply getting out into the countryside, castles with huge gardens to explore, here you can go for a ride out or simply relax onsite, listen to the burbling stream which runs through the site, get the BBQ going, and enjoy the tranquillity!

Onsite, Cumbrian Heavy Horses is the world’s only BHS Approved and Highly Commended Heavy Horse Riding Centre! You’ll find only pure bred magnificent Shire, Clydesdale, Suffolk Punch, Brabant, Percheron and Ardennes horses for riding over fields, fells and beaches!
There are miles of fabulous riding on private farmland with some of the most spectacular scenery in the UK, and a variety of horses to suit all levels of experience. Rides are carefully organised as Instructional Hacks, with tuition, and start from 1 to 2 hours, with longer fell and beach ride experiences to suit experience levels.

The big horses are a magnificent sight and a fabulous experience.

Being the Lake District, guests will find a haven for walking. A series of footpaths run through the farm, with routes up both Black and White Combe (the foothills are accessible from the campsite) and the rest of the National Park on your doorstep.
There are plenty of lakes to visit in the area, of course:

Lake Windermere
Bassenthewaite Lake

Esthwaite Water

And several smaller tarns that you can walk around, including Rydal Water and Tarn Hows.

Grizedale Forest is only a short drive away and offers miles of fabulous off road mountain biking. Road cyclists can explore the routes of one of the UK’s most famous road challenges, the Fred Whitton – held here annually.
The area is also a bird watchers paradise, with many small nature reserves. The closest is Hodbarrow Nature Reserve, at the old mine in Millom.

Finally, the farm is just five minutes from the sweeping sandy beaches at Silecroft.
