Family camping trip to the Southern Lakes Despite a leaking tent, we had a lovely time at Baystone Bank, so much so that we intend on returning next year and staying in one of the glamping pods. The mountain view is simply fabulous - waking up, making a brew, and gazing upon the majestic White Combe and her companions from your camp chair while nursing said brew is a beautiful soulful tonic. Tranquil, serene, sublime, this is a campsite for those of us who appreciate Mother Nature and her green, green grass. We fell asleep to the sounds of a babbling brook, which runs through the middle of the site, and a cooing owl. Baystone Bank is a delightful campsite for walkers, hikers, and those wanting to get away from the daily hubbub. The site is clean and very well kept, with friendly staff and a quaint onsite cafe. I had one of the best breakfasts I’ve ever had, served by Steve - the cafe had a cosy, comforting vibe, a million miles away from the pretentiousness of 2023. Farm eggs and a proper mug - perfection. The wardens, Tony and Ann, were lovely and very passionate about their work. They strived to make sure visitors adhered to the rules - and unfortunately, some did not adhere to either the rules or common courtesy. If you want a more boisterous site, to cater for young and rowdy children - as young children generally are - this is not the site for you. And the showers were clean and comfortable. Very few things in life are absolutely perfect, and Baystone Bank, at least for me, is no exception - but these comments are ‘niggly’ ones, nothing substantial. The brook was so lovely, but there didn’t appear to be any electric hook-up pitches next to it (and I’m most definitely an EHU kinda camper!); our pitch sloped slightly, which didn’t make for the easiest tent organisation; and when the wardens weren’t on shift, the rules weren’t enforced, which meant discourteous campers were at large - one camper opening and closing their car door repeatedly at 11pm while they set up; rambunctious children hollering at 10pm (and kicking balls into tents); and children, including teenagers, climbing the fences into off-limits areas. Overall, 9/10 (the last point being withheld because the rules weren’t enforced when the wardens were off shift) and as I’ve said, we intend on returning next year 🙂

Beautiful location, clean and quiet. What a superb campsite. A beautiful location with a pretty babbling brook down along side the camping area, giving of a lovely peaceful air. It is maintained well by the caretakers. There is a clean toilet / shower block and due to be a shop and Cafe (it wasn’t up and running when we visited, so check before you arrive, as any shops are not close by). There are metered sites with hard standing and a lawn for motor homes and metered grass sites for tents. Water easily accessible by tapes either end and waste water / sewage tanks for portaloo emptying. There are also lovely looking, brand new glamping chalets available, which have kitchen facilities and beds. There are lots of walks and the Cwmbran Heavy Horse centre on site (which is a great experience to do) but for other things to do you would have to drive. There is a beach a little drive away. There is a big hall with a bar and restaurant not far away, (about 1/2 hr walk). It was super quiet when we went (out of season), which was exactly what we wanted. We really enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend a visit.

A Hidden Gem Wow, if you want a place that’s scenic, clean, friendly and full of wildlife entertainment for the kids and family COME HERE! We absolutely adore this campsite we have been a few times before and can’t get enough! We came this time with our friends little family and it really did not disappoint. The stream was gorgeous and had little fish swimming in it where the children played and enjoyed exploring the rocks and under the bridge. The staff are all wonderful, every single member of that team was helpful, funny and really gave a homely feel to the campsite. Nothing was too much, even on such a hot day the chef was full of cheer and made my son giggle lots! We enjoyed the fire pit where you can purchase logs from the site itself for £5 BARGAIN! Two bags lasted us all night and we enjoyed toasted marshmallows in between two wonderful hills and slept soundly by the running stream. There are notices in the toilets with timeframes for loud levels and these were great, it meant every camper knew what to do and how to be respectful to each other. The toilets were clean, with showers available too and cute little lending library. I noticed there were comments about toilet roll and other things that were not topped up, if you do find this when you are there there is a helpful mobile number you can ring for it to be refilled promptly. There is washing up stations, freezers you can use and a cute little shop/cafe. Keep an eye out for the wonderful horses that go past in the lane, they truly are magnificent. I can’t write enough here about how amazing this place is, for campers in tents and caravans or ever if you rent a pod. Thank you, we can’t wait to come back again!

2nd chance- credit where credit is due I’m reviewing for a 2nd time because I think this campsite deserves that much! Credit where credit is due…. We had a LOVELY time 😁 After the first experience with the crazy group that was on site we were unsure whether to give this site another go but we did because it’s such a great site! It’s a beautiful location, close to what you need, Millom 10 mins away, Roanhead Beach 30 mins away- definitely worth the drive gorgeous beach for animals & children! The scenery is amazing the hills, all the green, the beautiful horses and the little crazy baby sheep which were very cute to watch chasing after their mama’s. Lots of walks to be had such as the stone circle. Just an all round beautiful location! The campsite have clearly tweaked a few things-put buttons on the showers so there is enough hot water to go around even a packed campsite, installed a beaded net up at the facilities which was needed to help the critters from taking lodge, im all for outdoors and the bugs but don’t particularly like sharing my shower with them an I am aware this isn’t always avoidable but it was definitely a good call Baystone! Cleanliness was extremely good, every time I went up to the shower/toilet block it had either just been cleaned or was getting cleaned. I can only say the last time I stayed the majority of mess was probably down to the 100 inconsiderate crazy campers that were in the top field and the wardens just couldn’t keep on top of it. I just can’t fault one bit where that is concerned now. Gotta give credit to Ann & Tony there was a group of lads that stayed across the way that was only suppose to be a small group which turned into a larger group with out the knowledge of the wardens, they were inconsiderate of anyone else around them till 2 am partying and the next morning Ann & Tony took NO nonsense approach and they booted them from the campsite an rightfully so! This is a FAMILY run campsite for people looking for peace and quiet with family or friends this is not a party pad so if that’s what your looking for go else where! Baystone is now my new favourite site, so much so I booked again for next month, the weather was so kind to us hoping it’s the same end of June! Well done Baystone see you all again soon!😁

Wonderful Weekend. Outstanding Campsite, beautiful and quaint with very clean amenities, very helpful staff, wonderful onsite cafe. Thank you, we will be back. Not many sites allow an open fire which is encouraged here and is gratefully enjoyed by all who stay. Steve and Jo.

Beautiful & friendly Just got home yesterday from spending 4 nights at Baystone Bank farm and what a beautiful place. All the staff were very friendly and helpful. It has great facilities and beautiful walks on the door step. Loved that we were able to take our 4 dogs as well. Also loved that each pitch has its own fire pit. We will definitely be going back.

Great first trip to the Lakes We have just had our first stay here and we all had a fantastic time. The lady who welcomed us was really nice and helpful and dealt with any queries we had. The first night there was some noise late on, but this was fully dealt with and managed for the rest of our stay. The site itself has everything you could need when camping and all was kept to a high standard throughout the 3 nights. The evenings were the most enjoyable, having a pitch next to a steam and your own fire pit really made it fun and relaxing. In terms of location this was also a huge plus, it was 10 mins from a local Tesco and Shell garage, 15 mins from a really nice beach in Haverrigg where the sea is really clear and great for the kids to play in. We were also only 25 mins from Devoke Water which is beautiful small lake with parking close by with a short 5 mins walk. We will be coming back again and thanks again for a great time Iain
